Southern Seven Health Department is seeking applications for a regular, full time Head Start/Early Head Start Nurse based at the Administrative Office in Ullin, Illinois. This position does come with a benefit package, including vacation, personal, and sick time accrual, holidays, health and life insurance, and an employer sponsored cafeteria plan.  

This position works in conjunction with the Health/Nutrition Specialist and assists with implementing the following health services: health, dental health, parental education, and nutrition to ensure that all children and families receive the maximum health care when enrolled in the Head Start/Early Head Start program.

Qualifications:  This position requires an Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); preferences will be given to a Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in a school or public health setting.

Job Duties:

  • Reviews health records of children enrolled in the program and completes data entry to ensure information is up to date and accurate.
  • Completes hearing and vision screenings for children enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start.
  • Completes monthly infant/toddler observations in all Early Head Start classrooms as required by DCFS.
  • Works with the Parent Coordinators to ensure follow up activities are completed for areas identified as well as EPSDT well child checks and immunization schedules.
  • Works with centers and families to develop and implement specific medical action plans as needed for children enrolled in the program and assures that staff received any medical training as needed for the specific condition and/or medical action plan. Provides follow up services throughout the school year to ensure that all needs are being met.
  • Hosts and facilitates "Ask the Nurse" talks and discussions at centers on important health related topics to assist with education to parents and staff.
  • Provides CPR/First Aid training to staff and parents.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned to meet the requirements of the Head Start program.
