This position is a full time position and is based at the Administrative Office in Ullin, Illinois. It does come with a benefit package (including vacation, personal and sick time accrual, holidays, health and life insurance, and an employer sponsored cafeteria plan).
The Environmental Health/Emergency Preparedness Director is responsible for the operation of the Environmental Health Division and assuring that all Environmental Health programs are implemented in accordance with all applicable federal/state/local laws, regulations, ordinances, and all other program requirements. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Grant deliverables. The position does require supervisory skills, effective communication and organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task.
Qualifications: At a minimum the applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Environmental Health, Public Health, or Public Administration with at least 30 college hours in science courses AND two years of supervisory experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a LEHP (Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner) and previous environmental health experience. If the applicant does not possess a LEHP, he/she will be required to obtain one within one year of the hire date.
Job Duties:
- Establishes policies and procedures as required to meet program goals and objectives.
- Supervises staff to ensure division goals and objectives are accomplished in an effective and efficient manner.
- Prepares grant applications, needs assessments, and assures all required reports are submitted in a timely manner to funding agencies.
- Ensures accurate record keeping and reporting for Environmental Health Division.
- Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Southern Seven Health Department emergency response plan.
- Assures implementation of the Public Health Emergency Response Grant deliverables on a timely basis.
- Assists in community health programming and public health policy development related to public health emergency response.
- Serves as a spokesperson for the department on environmental health and emergency response matters at public meetings and through the news media.
