Billing Specialist

Southern Seven Health Department is seeking applications for a regular, full time Billing Specialist position that is based at the Business Office in Ullin, Illinois. This position does come with a benefit package, including vacation, personal, and sick time accrual, holidays, health and life insurance, and an employer sponsored cafeteria plan.   This position coordinates all billing activities and ensures maximum reimbursements and compliance.

Qualifications:  The applicant must have at a minimum an Associate Degree in medical coding, business administration, or an approved related degree.

Job Duties:

• Monitors billing procedures and documentation; provides updates as needed regarding reimbursements and regulatory compliance.
• Maintains billing files and a resource library related to department coding.
• Trains staff that perform billing duties on billing procedures.
• Creates journal entries for clinic billings, related fees, and payments.
• Submits the billing to appropriate payers and posts the payments when they are received.
• Reviews and completes follow up on denials and reimbursements relative to charge entry processes.
• Sends past due accounts to the collection agency as needed.
• Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
• Conducts quarterly self-audits.
• Reviews all fee schedules and makes recommendations for fee changes.

• Follows all policies and procedures related to confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
• Performs other duties as requested or assigned to meet the requirements of the agency.
